Intro to Improv – No Experience Required

Saturdays, April 27 - June 1 with a showcase on June 8

Join us for six weeks while we take you through exercises and games that will lay down a solid framework for performing improv. Students learn improv terminology, best practices, teamwork and the elements of performing scenes and playing games. Class is a mix of students interested in getting on stage as well as folks who want to learn better improv skills.

Whether you are trying to become an improv performer, looking for a way to gain confidence at work, or just want to meet some people and try a new hobby, this class is for you. No Experience Required!

Short Form Musical Improv

Games Lab

Come play the short form games you see in The Grind and Whose Line. Learn the nuances of what makes each game work and focus on delivering fun for the audience. A month of fun with a seasoned short form improv instructor culminating in a Saturday afternoon Showcase!

Level 2: Duo Scenes

Level 2: Duo Scenes is your next step improv class, designed for those ready to deepen their improvisational skills! Focusing on the art of sustaining two-person scenes, this course is perfect for individuals looking to expand their creativity and spontaneity on stage.

Through hands-on exercises and personalized feedback, you’ll focus on discovering and exploring relationships through emotions and point of view. Our experienced instructors will help you navigate the complexities of dynamic interactions, ensuring your scenes are more engaging and able to continue. Bring your passion for improv and let’s elevate your performance to new heights. Excellent for short-form and long-form players.

Welcome to Level 3: Teams & Forms, where the excitement of Duo Scenes expands into the realm of group scenes and teamwork! In this class, participants will delve into the essential mindsets and techniques required to thrive in the world of long form improv shows. From cultivating group mind to seamlessly linking scenes through edits, understanding the cadence of a long form improv show, and engaging in constructive feedback between your fellow students, this course is designed to equip you with the skills needed for success.

Our aim? To set you on a course towards a rewarding improv career, whether as a core member of your own team or as a regular performer on active Spitfire shows.

Level 4: Advanced Scenework

Level 4: Advanced Scenework will revisit and refine the skills acquired in our previous classes, taking them to new heights. This course is dedicated to immersing students in a thorough exploration of the tools and techniques they've only scratched the surface of throughout their improv education. With a focus on intentionality, participants will learn to infuse every moment on stage with purpose, ensuring no gift goes unnoticed or untapped.

Throughout this journey, we'll delve into advanced edits, honing our ability to shape scenes with precision. By the course's end, students will emerge feeling empowered to make each scene truly count. Ultimately, students will be able to explain the choices they made in each moment on stage.

Our objective? To equip students with a profound comprehension of the tools they've acquired thus far, enabling them to seamlessly integrate these skills with deliberate decision-making in the heat of improv performances. Get ready to elevate your improv game to the next level!

Drop in any time you’d like. This improv class is open to all levels and always focuses on new techniques, practices, and frameworks to make you a better improviser on—and off—stage. Join us once a week as Spitfire's friendly instructors take you through the exercises and games that we play on stage and learn how to handle any moment, on the spot. Class is a mix of students interested in getting on stage as well as folks who want to learn skills to help them be great humans.

Each class is different - we'll take you through time-honored exercises and classic improv games that are as fun to play as they are useful and over time, show you how to make awesome choices on the spot, get intellectually quicker, expand your sense of humor, and have each other's backs through comedy
