Live Sketch Comedy Comes to Downtown St Pete

Sketch Foundations Class

Starting November 1st at 12p, people who love sketch comedy can start paving their way as students in Spitfire’s new beginner-level Sketch Comedy Foundations course. It’s the first formal sketch comedy class ever offered in the area, taught online for an hour a week by NYC transplant, Coleman O’Toole.

“To be part of the growing creative community in St Pete is really exciting,” said O’Toole, who’s worked with giants in the sketch comedy world, including Emmy-Nominated Key & Peele writer Rich Talarico. “Writing comedy is more of an outlet than an exercise, and we’ve got some really cool plans to bring these sketches to life at Spitfire.”

The newly built downtown comedy venue is in planning stages for a weekly live sketch comedy show that will feature sketches written by an in-house team of writers. “We need trained writers for that,” says Nick Rigs, Spitfire’s Artistic Director. “Our hope is to put the best comic minds in the area together on the page, stage and screen, regardless of their background being stand up or improv. Sketch naturally brings those worlds together.”

Spitfire’s Sketch Foundations class meets online via Zoom beginning Sunday November 1st for 6 weeks. Class meets for 1 hour once a week. By the end, students will have a fully written sketch and be eligible to apply to as a writer for the show. Interested students should enroll now online and use code SKETCH20 for $25 off tuition.
